Where have all sensations gone?
I was quietly perusing Largehearted Boy yesterday morning when I saw an article he linked of AC Newman in Rolling Stone. I nearly flipped out in the office when I read this:
"Neko [Case] can't make the June shows, so Kathryn's going to be the girl," Newman says. "So we're going to be kind of like the Fiery Furnaces -- the relatives band [laughs]."
No Neko is no laughing matter. I didn't believe it. I actually called Matador Records to comfirm it. They said, "Normally, Neko doesn't tour with them anyway." Yes, I have an unhealthy obsession with Neko, but it's Neko Case. Grudingly, I decided to make the hike to Maxwell's and see for myself.

As you can see, there's no Neko. I was expecting the crowd to shout "Where the fuck is Neko?' incessantly but once AC Newman introduced Kathryn as his niece, I guessed the crowd thought it would be impolite. I was in such a bad mood when I entered the club, but thankfully they had a good opener, DJ Dog.

Floppy hat. Rubber sunglasses. Pants three sizes too big. Penny loafers. The guy looks like one of my old classmates that I used to beat up. But he rocked his heart out and that's all that counts. I'd definitely see one of his shows again.
